To North Carolina we went...to see our good friends/brothers:
Addison
and Michael T. Hopkins.
Nate, Dave, Mary and myself picked the boys up at the Fontana Dam shelter and took them out for a bite to eat "in town" at the local lodge. We came back to the shelter where we all stayed for the night. Yes, it was super cold, but a great experience.
The next day, we met up with a few more of their hiking buddies/partners and went into town to get them resupplied with food for the next few days. We also ate Mexican to fill their tummies.
We took them to a cabin that we rented for the night to enjoy chili, the Auburn SEC Championship, and a night in a warm place with a bed/couch. Great accommodations!
After a great night of hanging out and football, the next day we had to take the boys back to the trailhead to begin the trek down to Springer Mountain, GA. Saying goodbye was hard, so we took lots of pictures!
Friends!
The whole group.
It was such a blessing to get to see our friends who are actually now done with the Appalachian Trail. We are so proud of them for starting AND finishing the entire 2,179 miles. Check out their adventures on their blogs here and here. Traveling and visiting friends is one of our favorite things to do, so the trip = success!
Gratitude goes out to: warm fires, quality time with best friends and meeting new friends, being incorporated into our friends journeys and adventures!
Until next time!
Happy new year. What a group! Did you climb some of the rocks?
